Question of the Day

Your cousin, who keeps a small backyard chicken flock, calls you about a strange egg she found in her flock’s nest box.
She describes an object that appears to be tubular with tapered ends, twisting a bit in the center. It has a rubbery consistency and is yellow-tan. There is no shell, and it is homogeneously caseous throughout with many thin layers when cut in cross-section.
What likely caused a hen to lay this weird ‘egg’?
