Clindamycin is a lincosamide. The most common side effect of lincosamides is gastrointestinal (GI) upset.
Clindamycin is contraindicated in horses, ruminants, rabbits, guinea pigs, chinchillas, and hamsters, as it can cause a severe, potentially fatal, psuedomembranous enterocolitis. Disruption of the normal GI flora can cause overgrowth of pathogenic species and subsequent severe GI dysbiosis.
