New World camelids are induced ovulators, like cats and rabbits. Once puberty occurs, a dominant follicle develops every 12-14 days year-round.  A seminal induction factor stimulates ovulation within 24-30 hours after mating.  Normal gestation is 342 days plus or minus 10 days. More than 70% of births occur during the day, between midmorning and afternoon.

Interesting note: 95% or more of pregnancies in South American camelids occur in the left horn of the uterus.
