M-mode, 2D, and Doppler are key parts of the echocardiogram.

M-mode (or motion mode) is most commonly used in echocardiography for diseases like hypertrophic cardiomyopathy (HCM), where you have movement and want to measure distances accurately. M-mode measurements are important in diseases like HCM where the heart muscle is thickened.

B-mode is also known as 2D, and is the standard way to obtain traditional cardiac views with echocardiography. 

Doppler ultrasound is also a part of a routine echocardiogram. It measures movement and velocity – e.g., to assess a regurgitant jet across an incompetent valve.
