In the southeastern U.S. a four-year-old female spayed Catahoula Leopard dog is presented for a one-month history of coughing and decreased energy.
Routine CBC and serum chemistries are submitted to a reference laboratory. The dog has an episode of collapse following blood draw.
A packed cell volume and total solids at that time is 42%/8.2 g/dL, which is within the normal range. A blood smear is shown below.
