Alcohol is flammable so, if present on the skin during the electrical shock used for defibrillation, may result in explosion or fire.

No one should contact the dog or the table during defibrillation as they may be shocked as well. Humans who get shocked may develop a cardiac arrhythmia.

The person in charge of the defibrillator must announce their intention by calling out ‘clear,’ or another understood warning, prior to applying the electrical shock.
