Think pulmonic stenosis if you see right ventricular hypertrophy, because stenotic pulmonic valve blocks outflow from right ventricle (mostly in dogs). Follow this link to see an angiogram image of pulmonic stenosis.

Listen for a systolic murmur loudest on LEFT chest between the 2^nd and 4^th intercostal space (ICS); genetic link in beagles. Predilection seen in many breeds, including English bulldog, miniature schnauzer, Scotties, Chihuahuas, cocker spaniels, and boxers.

Pulmonic stenosis can be confused with aortic stenosis (also called sub-aortic stenosis), a systolic murmur which may be heard most loudly on the left chest between the 2^nd and 5^th ICS or at the thoracic inlet (lateral to trachea).

Mitral dysplasia and other mitral valve problems are heard further back on left at 5^th-6^th ICS. More common in CATS.

Tricuspid dysplasia (uncommon) is heard further back on RIGHT at 5^th-6^th ICS.

Expect a continuous murmur with PDA. Vast majority detected at first vaccination visit.
