Veterinarians
Next Renewal Date: December 31, 2028
Renewal Frequency: Every 3 years
Total Required CE credits: 45 hours
Required Subjects: At least 30 hours must be scientific in nature, including topics related to diagnosis, treatment, disease prevention, public veterinary practice, epidemiology, food safety, public health, animal welfare, or antimicrobial stewardship. At least 1 hour must cover medical records, at least 1 hour must cover state veterinary law and/or federal or state controlled substance laws, and at least 12 hours must be completed through live, in-person or qualifying live interactive education.
Allowed Online: Up to 33 hours may be completed online through RACE-approved providers, including ZukuCE, provided the live education requirement is met.
Interactive Required: At least 12 hours of live, in-person or qualifying live interactive continuing education.
Record Retention: Four years from the date of applying for license renewal.
Audit Information: Michigan conducts random continuing education audits after each renewal period. Licensees selected for audit must submit copies of their CE certificates and should retain the originals.
Additional Information: Veterinarians licensed for the entire three-year renewal cycle must complete the full continuing education requirement before renewing. Michigan does not preapprove CE courses, so licensees are responsible for ensuring completed courses meet Board requirements. Allowed Online: Up to 10 hours may be completed online through RACE-approved providers, including ZukuCE.
Interactive Required: At least 5 hours must be completed in person or through live, synchronous instruction.
Record Retention: Four years from the date of applying for license renewal.
Audit Information: Michigan conducts random continuing education audits after each renewal period. Licensees selected for audit must provide documentation demonstrating compliance with continuing education requirements.
