Veterinarians
Next Renewal Date: Varies by licensee; licenses expire 2 years from the date of issuance.
Renewal Frequency: Every 2 years
Total Required CE: 24 hours
Required Subjects: At least 1 hour must be in medical records, veterinary law, or ethics, and at least 1 hour must address opioid use or prescribing. No more than 6 hours may be in non-medical topics, including practice management, professional development, and professional wellness.
Allowed Online: 24 hours. All required CE may be completed online; however, at least 12 hours must be completed through simultaneously interactive remote learning or another qualifying interactive format. No more than 12 hours may be completed through passive, prerecorded learning. AAVSB RACE-approved CE, including qualifying ZukuCE courses, is accepted.
Interactive Required: 12 hours. At least 50% of required CE must be completed through in-person or simultaneously interactive remote learning, such as a live webinar that allows real-time interaction.
Record Retention: CE documentation must be maintained for at least 3 years.
Audit Information: Licensees must provide documentation of completed continuing education if selected for an audit by the New Hampshire Board of Veterinary Medicine.
Additional Information: Veterinarians must complete at least 6 CE hours during each 12-month period preceding renewal. CE requirements are waived for the first renewal following graduation.
Veterinary Technicians
Next Renewal Date: December 31, 2026
Renewal Frequency: Annually by December 31 for certification for the upcoming year.
Total Required CE: 12 hours
Required Subjects: At least 9 of the 12 CE hours must be medical and related to veterinary medicine. Up to 3 hours may be in professional development topics, such as business practices or human resources, when approved for CE by a professional veterinary organization.
Allowed Online: 12 hours. Online CE is accepted. NHVTA accepts RACE-approved CE, including ZukuCE, and CE from NHVTA-approved providers.
Record Retention: CVTs must retain documentation of completed continuing education.
Audit Information: NHVTA audits a percentage of certified veterinary technicians each year. CE certificates do not need to be submitted with the annual renewal application unless the CVT is selected for an audit.
Additional Information: CE hours exceeding the 12-hour annual requirement cannot be carried forward to the following year. Renewals submitted after December 31 and before March 1 are subject to a late fee.
