Veterinarians
Next Renewal Date: June 30, 2027
Renewal Frequency: Annually
Total Required CE: 24 hours every 2 years, certified with each even-year renewal
Required Subjects: None. However, no more than 8 hours of practice-management CE may count toward the CE requirement. Personal financial planning or programs primarily designed to improve the licensee’s ability to earn or invest money do not qualify for CE credit
Allowed Online: 24 hours total (no more than 6 hours may be non-live/prerecorded )
Interactive Required: At least 18 of the 24 required CE hours must be completed through in-person or live virtual education. North Dakota defines live virtual CE as a real-time presentation where communication between the speaker and attendee is available. Zuku CE is RACE-approved, and Zuku’s qualifying live, interactive online CE can be used toward North Dakota’s live CE requirement.
Record Retention: The current rule does not specify a set number of years that CE documentation must be retained. However, proof of attendance and verification must be provided upon request. Acceptable verification may include a program, certificate, brochure, handout, or syllabus documenting the topics, instructor and qualifications, and time for each presentation. The Board may also verify CE through a third-party database at its discretion.
Audit Information: The Board may request proof and verification of CE compliance. If a veterinarian fails to complete the CE requirement, the Board must notify the licensee and may, at its discretion, allow a six-month grace period to make up the deficiency.
Additional Information: Although veterinarian licenses renew every year on June 30, the 24-hour CE requirement applies to the 24 months preceding each even-year renewal date. Therefore, the next CE reporting deadline is June 30, 2028, even though the next license renewal itself is June 30, 2027.
Veterinary Technicians
Next Renewal Date: December 31, 2026
Renewal Frequency: Annually
Total Required CE: 12 hours every 2 years, certified with each even-year renewal
Required Subjects: None. However, no more than 4 hours of practice-management CE may count toward the CE requirement. Personal financial planning or programs primarily designed to improve the licensee’s ability to earn or invest money do not qualify for CE credit
Allowed Online: 12 hours total (no more than 3 hours may be non-live/prerecorded )
Interactive Required: At least 9 of the 12 required CE hours must be completed through in-person or live virtual education. Live virtual CE must occur in real time with communication between the speaker and attendee available. Zuku CE is RACE-approved, and Zuku’s qualifying live, interactive online CE can be used toward North Dakota’s live CE requirement.
