Veterinarians

Next Renewal Date: March 1, 2027

Renewal Frequency: Every 2 years (March 1 of odd-numbered years)

Total Required CE credits: 30 hours

Required Subjects: At least 20 hours must be approved medical programs directly related to the practice of veterinary medicine. No more than 10 hours may be in practice management or professional development.

Allowed Online: Up to 18 hours may be completed online through RACE-approved providers, including ZukuCE. Ohio requires at least 12 hours to be completed in person unless the Board grants a medical exemption.

Interactive Required: At least 12 hours must be completed in person unless a Board-approved medical exemption is granted.

Audit Information: Licensees certify completion of continuing education during renewal. The Board may request documentation to verify compliance.

Additional Information: Veterinarians renewing for the first time after initial licensure are exempt from the continuing education requirement. CE hours may not be carried over into the next renewal period. The Board may grant a waiver or alternative requirements for prolonged illness or emergency upon written request with supporting documentation.

Veterinary Technicians

Next Renewal Date: March 1, 2027

Renewal Frequency: Every 2 years (March 1 of odd-numbered years)

Total Required CE credits: 10 hours

Required Subjects: At least 6 hours must be approved medical programs directly related to the practice of veterinary medicine. No more than 4 hours may be in practice management or professional development.

Allowed Online: Up to 6 hours may be completed online through RACE-approved providers, including ZukuCE. Ohio requires at least 4 hours to be completed in person unless the Board grants a medical exemption.

Interactive Required: At least 4 hours must be completed in person unless a Board-approved medical exemption is granted.

Audit Information: Registered veterinary technicians certify completion of continuing education during renewal. The Board may request documentation to verify compliance.

Additional Information: Registered veterinary technicians are exempt from continuing education requirements for their first renewal after initial registration. CE hours may not be carried over to the next renewal period. The Board may grant a waiver for unusual circumstances if requested in writing, but no more than one waiver may be granted within a six-year period.
