Veterinarians
Next Renewal Date: January 1, 2027
Renewal Frequency: Every 2 years
Total Required CE: 30 hours every 2 years
Required Subjects: At least 22 of the 30 hours must be in veterinary medical or surgical courses. Veterinarians authorized to prescribe controlled substances must complete at least 2 hours every 2 years related to approved procedures for prescribing and monitoring Schedule II, III, and IV controlled substances.
Allowed Online: All 30 required CE hours may be completed online. Up to 10 hours may be prerecorded or written CE. RACE-approved courses, including qualifying ZukuCE courses, are accepted.
Interactive Required: At least 20 of the 30 CE hours must be completed through live, in-person or live digital interactive programs. ZukuCE live interactive CE may be used toward this requirement.
Record Retention: 3 years. Licensees must retain CE documentation showing the participant's name and license number, provider, program name, hours completed, and completion date.
Audit Information: CE must be reported through CE Broker, the Board's official CE tracking system. The Board conducts random CE audits after the close of a renewal period. Courses reported through RACETrack can transfer to a South Carolina CE Broker account once the account is activated.
Additional Information: CE hours cannot be carried forward to another renewal period. CE is waived for the first year of licensure. Veterinarians licensed from April 1, 2026 through January 1, 2027 are exempt from CE for this renewal. The Board may waive, modify, or extend CE requirements in cases of qualifying hardship, disability, illness, or other extenuating circumstances.
Veterinary Technicians
Next Renewal Date: January 1, 2027
Renewal Frequency: Every 2 years
Total Required CE: 12 hours every 2 years
Required Subjects: At least 6 of the 12 hours must be in veterinary medical courses.
Allowed Online: All 12 required CE hours may be completed online. Up to 6 hours may be prerecorded or written CE. RACE-approved courses, including qualifying ZukuCE courses, are accepted.
Interactive Required: At least 6 of the 12 CE hours must be completed through live, in-person or live digital interactive programs. ZukuCE live interactive CE may be used toward this requirement.
Record Retention: 3 years. Veterinary technicians must retain documentation showing the participant's name and license number, provider, program name, hours completed, and completion date.
