Veterinarians
Next Renewal Date: Varies by individual license expiration date
Renewal Frequency: Every 2 years
Total Required CE: 20 hours each calendar year, completed by December 31
Required Subjects: At least 15 of the 20 annual hours must pertain to the medical and surgical care of animals. Up to 5 hours may cover other veterinary topics, including practice management and state or federal regulatory programs. Additionally, 2 hours every 2 years must address regulatory issues, controlled substances, or professional ethics.
Allowed Online: Up to 10 of the 20 annual CE hours may be completed online. RACE-approved programs are recognized by the Board, making qualifying ZukuCE courses eligible for Tennessee CE credit.
Interactive Required: At least 10 hours annually must involve physical attendance. Tennessee classifies internet, videoconferencing, and other distance learning as multimedia CE.
Record Retention: 4 years from the end of the calendar year in which the CE was completed.
Audit Information: Licensees must retain documentation of CE attendance and completion and provide it to the Board upon request. Licensees attest to CE compliance during renewal.
Additional Information: Veterinarians are exempt from CE during the calendar year in which they graduate from an approved veterinary school. The same course cannot be counted more than once during a calendar year.

Required Subjects: No specific mandatory subject is identified. CE must meet the Board's requirements for approved veterinary continuing education.
Allowed Online: Up to 4 of the 12 annual CE hours may be completed online. RACE-approved programs are recognized by the Board, making qualifying ZukuCE courses eligible for Tennessee CE credit.
